Couples Intensives
There are times in a marriage or committed relationship when weekly therapy sessions just aren’t enough.
Either there’s too much to unpack, or your busy schedule makes it difficult to commit to a one-hour appointment each week. You might even worry that it will take multiple sessions before you start seeing real progress—and that thought alone makes you anxious about starting traditional couples therapy.
Many of our clients are highly accomplished individuals juggling demanding careers and personal responsibilities. While they knew something had to change in their marriage, the idea of adding weekly therapy to their already full plates felt overwhelming. Others feared that a single hour wouldn’t be enough—that they’d leave the session still hurting, forced to manage unresolved pain on their own for another week or two. And for some, the wounds in their relationship ran so deep that real change simply wasn’t possible without dedicating focused, uninterrupted time.
This is where intensive couples therapy makes a difference. Instead of slow, week-to-week progress, you’ll have the opportunity to dive in and address the heart of your challenges in a concentrated way—leading to faster breakthroughs and lasting change. Intensives offer couples the opportunity to address the roots of reoccurring conflict, heal past relational injuries, and emerge with a new sense of connection and purpose. Not only does this approach save time, but it also saves money compared to months of traditional therapy.
If you’re ready to break free from the cycle of conflict and discover the tools to build a fresh start, let’s talk. A more effective way to heal and reconnect is possible.

If you're looking for a faster, deeper way to create meaningful change in your most important relationships, a Counseling Intensive might be the perfect fit. This approach is designed for those ready to break through challenges and experience real transformation without the drawn-out process of weekly therapy.
Rather than attending 50-minute sessions spread out over months, a Counseling Intensive condenses the work into one or two focused days. This format allows you to dive deeper, gain clarity, and see results more quickly—all in a setting tailored to your specific needs and goals. Many clients describe it as a retreat-like experience, giving them the space to step away from daily distractions and fully immerse themselves in healing, self-reflection, and reconnection.

A Counseling Intensive offers a powerful alternative to traditional 50-minute sessions, allowing for deeper, more effective work in a shorter period of time. In a standard session, a good portion of the time is spent checking in and wrapping up, leaving only about 30-40 minutes for meaningful therapeutic exploration. With an Intensive, you gain uninterrupted time to truly dive into the heart of your challenges.
With 2 days of 6-hour sessions, you’ll receive 12 hours of dedicated counseling—the equivalent of 3 months of weekly or 6 months of bi-weekly therapy packed into just a few days. This focused approach accelerates progress, providing the space and momentum needed for meaningful breakthroughs and lasting change.

Payment
Unfortunately, Counseling Intensives are typically not covered by insurance due to several factors. Most insurance companies have strict guidelines on what they will reimburse, and the non-traditional structure of Intensives doesn’t fit within those criteria. Since Intensives involve longer sessions over a shorter period, they don’t align with insurance policies designed for shorter, weekly appointments.
Additionally, insurance plans often have limitations on the types of therapy they cover, and because Intensives are a highly customized experience, they don’t fit neatly into standardized reimbursement models. For these reasons, insurance companies generally do not provide coverage for this type of therapy.
While this may be disappointing, many clients find that the focused, accelerated nature of a Counseling Intensive leads to faster, more lasting results, making it a worthwhile investment in their personal growth and relationships.
An adjunct to individual therapy
An Intensive can be a great complement to the work you’re already doing with your primary counselor. Many clients find that an Intensive helps them break through specific challenges or move past feeling stuck, making their ongoing therapy even more effective.
In fact, many counselors encourage their clients to participate in an Intensive for this very reason. To ensure a smooth collaboration and alignment with your current therapy, we kindly ask that you sign a Release of Information form. This allows us to coordinate with your counselor and help you get the most out of your therapeutic journey.
One-Day or Two-Day?
The number of Intensive days depends on your unique goals and what you hope to achieve. If we’re just beginning our work together, I typically recommend a 2-Day Intensive to allow for deeper exploration and meaningful progress. However, if we’ve already started working together and you have specific, well-defined goals, a 1-Day Intensive (6 hours) may be enough to address your needs.
We are happy to help you determine the best approach to ensure the Intensive is tailored to your objectives and provides the most impactful experience. Feel free to reach out, and we can discuss what would work best for you!
One-day Intensives are scheduled on Saturdays from 9 am- 6 pm, whereas Two-day Intensives are scheduled the same hours on both Saturday and Sunday. There are scheduled breaks and an opportunity for lunch on both days.

A Couples Intensive isn’t just an expense—it’s an investment in your relationship, personal growth, and long-term happiness. Each Intensive is meticulously designed to fit your unique needs, ensuring a personalized and deeply impactful experience. Instead of spending months in traditional weekly therapy, where progress can feel slow, drawn out, or interruptive, an Intensive provides focused, accelerated healing in just a few days.
In all, you’re getting the equivalent of months of therapy condensed into one transformative experience. Many clients find that the breakthroughs they achieve in an Intensive would have taken six months or more of traditional counseling—ultimately saving them both time and money. Comparatively, a couples Intensive is a fraction of the cost of divorce attorneys or mediators.
Couples that Intensives are not suited for….
Although these Intensives are run by licensed therapists, couples will be excluded for the following:
Couples in severe relationship distress (e.g., active affair)
Couples experiencing significant emotional or physical abuse
Couples wanting to address significant mental health issues or where one or both partners have significant mental health issues.
Relationships where one or both partners are currently dealing with active substance abuse/addiction, gambling, etc.
